adidas Originals by Mary Katrantzou Spring/Summer 2015
With their immersive graphics and electric colors, Katrantzou's designs speak with a bold, clear creative vision—one that has yielded the designer a well-deserved place in the fashion stratosphere, as a fearless innovator and the title of "Queen of the Digital Print". This season, the designer looks back to 80's workout and fitness imagery and takes on sportswear paraphernelia to create abstract collages of figurative motifs.
Katrantzou's apparel features intricate digital prints across a range of women's wardrobe staples. At first glance, the prints seem like divine representations of Olympic symbolism. Upon closer examination, however, the prints reveal themselves to be intricate collages of various sports gear: a stopwatch, a tennis racket, and a badminton shuttlecock. These elements unite to form Katrantzou's witty yet subtle ode to the athletic tradition of adidas.
Apparel pieces elevate the experience of sport. A structured tee is embellished with silicone badges, lenticular patches, and crystals for a stunning kaleidoscopic effect. A reversible varsity jacket boasts sumptuous satin stitching and chenille applique. And an elegant short crepe tank dress offers exquisite construction, seamlessly making the transition from court to cocktail. Simple essentials like leggings, trackpants, boyfriend tees, boy shorts, and jersey swimsuits round out the season's offering—all in striking color and pattern.
Katrantzou's footwear offering expands with designs that elevate the everyday: imaginative new takes on adidas classics like the Superstar in vibrant prints and with holographic trim. The Flux Tech also gets remade with eye-catching patterns, colorful, '80s-inspired athletic motifs and a luscious abstract floral jacquard, referencing the season's inspiration as only Katrantzou can.
"Our Spring Summer collection for adidas is a nod to 80s sportswear. The characters and motifs are abstract collages in electric colours of everything sports related and a nod to the symbolist motifs from our mainline Autumn Winter 14 collection. The shoes this season are more closely connected to their apparel counterparts, offering the bolder of our customers the chance to wear a print from head to toe.
