adidas Launch New 'History Pack' Inspired by Goalkeeping Greats
Herzogenaurach, 7th December 2015 – Goalkeepers are a special community. A unique position on the pitch that demands mutual respect between generations, and that transcends rivalries. adidas Football today reveals the History Pack, a limited edition goalkeeper glove collection which sees the greatest goalkeepers of today pay homage to goalkeeping legends of the past.
The History Pack is made up of three designs, each inspired by an icon and given a modern twist for the players who boss their area today.
The first design pays homage to the gloves worn in the 1982 World Cup by Germany’s Toni Schumacher, and will be worn by Porto’s Iker Casillas. The second, inspired by France’s Fabien Barthez in the 1998 World Cup, will be seen on the hands of Arsenal’s Petr Cech. The third design combines two of Germany’s greatest players, regardless of position, with the 1997 gloves worn by Oliver Kahn reimagined for Manuel Neuer.
Casillas, Cech, and Neuer were each involved in selecting the historic glove designs to be reimagined by adidas. The players chose based on each glove’s historic significance within goalkeeping, and the stunning retro design of the gloves.
Just 1,400 pairs of the gloves will be released to the public, available now from specialist retailers and adidas.com. The gloves will be worn on pitch for the first time in the UEFA Champion’s League group stage on December 8th / 9th.
The gloves are based on the adidas Ace Zones Pro, featuring all the latest glove innovation including Evo Zone Tech grip zone on the fingers and adidas’ seamless touch negative cut palm.
Exclusive interview content with the creators behind the History Pack, and footage of the great players who inspired these designs, will be included in tonight’s episode of adidas’ Champions League show Gamedayplus, released tonight at 20:45 CET on youtube.com/user/adidasfootballtv
