adidas x Topps partner to create special edition Cleat & Trainer pack

When two iconic brands get together to celebrate America’s pastime, the result is the adidas Baseball x Topps pack, featuring the adizero Afterburner, Icon cleat and Icon Trainer.

 

Armed with a sense of nostalgia and packs of Topps Pro Debut, Topps Opening Day, Topps Sticker Collection, Topps Tribute and Topps Chrome pack baseball cards, adidas designers opened a variety of packs of cards for inspiration and studied the details in order to create the aesthetics of the adidas Baseball x Topps pack. 

 

After the card-opening session, the idea was to bring the excitement and anticipation of opening a pack of cards to life through a baseball cleat. Centered around the unique elements found on Topps Chrome packs, the holographic images and stats on the backs of cards became the centerpiece of the design.

 

 

Built for speed and designed to make a statement, the Topps adizero Afterburner Cleats feature a one-piece hologram graphic that changes colors with movement. The unique upper is emblazoned with statistics and the iconic 3-Stripes were inspired by rare Topps baseball cards with game-worn jersey materials. A heel pull tab features a graphic of blurred fans in the ballpark and a Topps certified autograph space for players to sign their cleats, just like they would sign their rookie cards. Additional detailing includes a Topps logo set within a home plate on the tongue and co-branded adidas x Topps sockliners.

 

The adizero Afterburner, the lightest cleat in the game, takes the baseball cleat silhouette to the next level by incorporating a sneaker profile and redefining fit, feel and lightweight construction. With a refined shape that is sculpted to be aerodynamic and wrap around the foot in order to provide a sock-like feel, the new TECHFIT breathable, compression bootie allows for flexibility and movement through the ankle, while an articulated heel helps deliver a lockdown sensation that makes the cleat feel like an extension of the foot for multidirectional movement and control.

 

At the forefront of innovation, design and craftsmanship, the adizero Afterburner is engineered with a lightweight, seamless SPRINTSKIN upper with zoned support and a reinforced abrasion toecap to help provide structure for lateral movements and sprints between the bases. Additionally, a textured, stripped down heel panel is designed to keep the weight of the cleat towards the ball of the foot for maximum acceleration.

 

The comfortable yet durable upper sits atop a full-length LITESTRIKE EVA midsole for increased cushioning and comfort. Inspired by track spikes worn by the fastest athletes on the planet, the 2018 adizero Afterburner is powered by a PROTRAX cleat configuration set within a holographic plate to provide dynamic acceleration and traction. 

 

 

The 2018 Topps Icon cleats pay homage to the baseball cards and America’s pastime with a molded holographic heel clip and reinforced toe cap that have been emblazoned with statistics. The tongue tab features a graphic of blurred fans in the ballpark and a Topps certified autograph space for players to sign their cleats, just they would sign their rookie cards. Additional detailing includes the Topps logo on the heel and co-branded adidas x Topps sockliners. Featuring a sneaker inspired upper with a TECHFIT bootie, the entire baseball card inspired Icon design sits atop a full-length Energy Boost midsole to provide game-changing comfort, while a holographic plate with PROTRAX cleat configuration provides dynamic acceleration and traction.

 

 

The adidas Baseball Icon Trainer is designed to showcase style and built to clock in hours at the batting cage and practice field. The Topps trainer pays homage to the baseball cards with holographic heel counter and reinforced toe cap that have been emblazoned with statistics. The tongue top features a graphic of blurred fans in the ballpark with a Topps certified autograph space for rookies to sign their cleats, just they would sign their rookie cards. Additional detailing includes the Topps logo on the heel and co-branded adidas x Topps sockliners.
