History of adidas World Cup Balls
FIFA WORLD CUP
Eight panels were used for the manufacture of the Jo'bulani, the official match ball for the 2010 FIFA World Cup final. Four of these panels have a 3D tripod shape, and the other four have a 3D triangle shape. The ball has a "Grip'n'Groove" surface profile with grooves and lines of various lengths to ensure stable flight in all weather conditions. The ball also has individual indentations in the panels ñ three in the "tripod" panels and one self-contained indentation at the centre of the "triangle" panel that circles the panel's form.
As official ball for the FIFA World Cup held in Germany, the +Teamgeist was mainly designed in black and white with golden elements inspired by the golden FIFA World Cup trophy. The revolutionary shape of the ball panels (propeller form) reduces the amount of corners and creates a homogenous combination for performance and design. Furthermore this design reflects movement and energy.
The Fevernova was the official match ball of the FIFA World Cup in Japan and South Korea2002. Brasil played Germany in the final in Yokohama and won the match 0:2.
The Tricolore was the official match ball of the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France. As a"buckyball", it comprises 32 hand-stitched panels 20 hexagons and 12 pentagons. The key innovation of the adidas EQT Tricolore is its newly developed syntactic foam.
The Telstar durlast was the official match ball for the 1970 World Cup in Mexico and the 1974 World Cup in West Germany. As a "buckyball" it comprises 32 hand-stitched panels ñ 20 hexagons and 12 pentagons which are stitched together with nylon thread.
