FIFA 2010 WORLD CUP ADIDAS GOLDEN GLOVES PAINTING-1 JUNE 23
"June 23 2010
As the final round of group games gripped the world in South Africa, adidas brought together three of the finest goalkeepers to ever grace the FIFA World Cup - Sergio Goycochea, Oliver Kahn and Petr Cech.
At the 1990 tournament, Argentina's passage to the final would not have been possible without the brilliant penalty-saving skills of Sergio Goycochea. Here he is immortalised by Espoir Vyizigiro Kennedy and Paul Junior Kasemwana, as he stopped two Italian spot-kicks in the semi-finals.
Twelve years later and Germany's Oliver Kahn, brilliantly realised here by Paul Junior Kasemwana and Espoir Vyizigiro Kennedy, claimed FIFA's 2002 Golden Ball award. Kahn was the player, with a string of inspiring displays between the posts, that helped Germany finish runners-up.
Petr Cech, who represented the Czech Republic at the 2006 tournament and is captured here by Espoir Vyizigiro Kennedy and Paul Junior Kasemwana, is widely regarded as one of the finest goalkeepers in the world today. He has won a string of honours as Chelsea's No. 1 in the English Premier League.
The three kings of keeping came together, in Johannesburg, to see the paintings for themselves and add signatures to their portraits.
