Last year, SpongeBob SquarePants celebrated its 25th anniversary. Now, as one of the world’s most loved animated shows returns to cinemas for its second feature length film, adidas Originals has come together with the long standing franchise to present a duo of collaborative footwear silhouettes.
First up, the Stan Smith Freizeit SpongeBob shoe reimagines SpongeBob’s iconic footwear through the lens of the Three Stripes. Known for his signature dress shoes, this collection takes the upper from the iconic Stan Smith silhouette, constructs it in patent black leather with a tonal debossed tongue logo and places it atop a chunky ridged rubber outsole. With no detail spared, main lace tips mimic SpongeBob’s socks while a collaborative graphic sock-liner can be removed to reveal a hidden squished Plankton print. Each pair then arrives in a custom pineapple print box with a boating license accessory.
Next, the Superstar II Patrick Star, takes cues from SpongeBob’s best friend to bring a new interpretation to the iconic adidas silhouette. A full premium suede upper is made up in vapour pink, with tonal accents, and black stripes, while alternating tongue lining embroidery features designs taken from some of the show’s most loved episodes. Each pair is then finished with translucent ocean graphic outsoles as well as sockliners and extra laces which mimic Patrick Star’s shorts. The Superstar II Patrick Star arrives in a custom box, designed to look like the rock under which Patrick lives.
The adidas Originals x SpongeBob footwear collection officially launches on November 20th. Sign-ups open on November 13th via the adidas app and CONFIRMED. The collection will be available at select adidas and adidas Originals stores, as well as select retailers.
