To celebrate the 120 year anniversary of ‘Le Crunch’ - the nickname given to the long standing rivalry between two of Europe’s greatest teams - adidas and the French Rugby Federation (FFR) have unveiled an exclusive collection that pays tribute to the historic rivalry.

Conceived as a bridge between heritage and modernity, the collection includes two distinct, but complementary elements. The first, dedicated to performance, is designed to support players and fans through the intensity of the game and includes a replica jersey and pre-match jersey, as well as shorts and a jacket.

The second takes inspiration from the style and cultural influence of rugby throughout the decades, but is more lifestyle-oriented, offering a culture wear line comprised of a cardigan, polo shirt, t-shirt, jacket, trousers and shorts.

Drawing directly from the history of the rivalry, the design of the match jersey - and its replica version - references the original light blue jersey worn by the French team in 1906 for their first fixture against England. The 1927 FFR logo adorned on the collection denotes the year of the French team’s first victory against England, while the ‘Tricolore’ stripes are a nod to the French rugby kits of the late 80s and 90s, when adidas was the kit supplier of the federation.

The adidas’ Trefoil logo returns, to make its debut appearance in the latest partnership with the FFR, while the traditional collar reinforces the connection to rugby’s classic and timeless style.

The signature piece of the collection - the heritage cardigan - is inspired by archive photographs from 1924, showing the French rugby team wearing this garment, which has become a symbol of the beginnings of rugby style, on and off the field.

The lifestyle collection is designed with comfort and style in mind, while the performance range - including the official and pre-match jerseys - incorporates adidas’ CLIMACOOL technology, engineered to keep athletes cool and dry.
