adidas Launches F50 SPARKFUSION – A Boot Built by and for Women’s Football Players

Today, adidas unveils F50 SPARKFUSION, a football boot built specifically to support the performance requirements of the female body, based on the speed demands of the modern women’s game.

Addressing reports that the majority of women players have at some point experienced discomfort while wearing a unisex football boot, F50 SPARKFUSION is born from adidas’ biggest-ever female foot sizing and anatomy data pool. Spearheaded by the adidas Innovation team - over a decade’s worth of existing foot anatomy data from football players of varying levels was supplemented by extensive new scans and detailed qualitative feedback and testing with the current athlete and partner team roster – including the likes of Trinity Rodman, Linda Caicedo, Jule Brand, Vicky Lopez, Arsenal Women, Real Madrid Femenino, OL Lyonnes and many more.

Additionally, match data insights - which show that the elite women’s game is increasing in speed and is characterized by quick changes of direction - were factored into the study, completing a holistic view of the unique requirements of women players in the modern game. The analysis of which provided the blueprint for the bespoke creation of the new boot.

Acknowledging that female feet typically have a narrower heel, higher arches and more volume around the midfoot area, adidas introduces a bespoke last – FUSIONLASTincorporating improved fit in the heel, midfoot and forefoot for better lockdown, increased comfort and to help facilitate quicker changes of direction.  

The introduction of a FUSIONSOLE SOCKLINER combines with the improved fit in the midfoot area, to further provide arch support and improved comfort. Meanwhile, an updated heel structure and external heel counter combine to provide increased comfort, stability and lockdown in the rearfoot to accommodate a narrower heel.

SPRINTFRAME FUSION FG/AG is a brand-new soleplate optimized to facilitate quick turns and push-off support, incorporating semi-conical studs to aid ease of rotation. An adjusted stud configuration based on foot pressure point data, has seen an additional PIVOT STUD added to the middle of the stud column, while an additional fourth stud has been added to outer side of the boot, to more evenly distribute the pressure load and allow for natural grass to artificial grass compatibility.

These features combine to create a boot that helps unlock the full potential of women football players. During testing, some of the best athletes in the world completed agility-centric drills faster in the F50 SPARKFUSION, when compared with unisex boot designs - allowing for quicker changes in direction.

Coming in a striking pastel purple color, the boot is punctuated with bold neon green and tonal graphics that envelop the entire silhouette and is complemented by adidas three stripes in neon green on the outer of the boot.

Available in a hero midcut model, as well as a lowcut laced and laceless model, the F50 SPARKFUSION adult range can be purchased today across four price points – starting from €60 for the entry level model up to €260 for the elite model.
