New Flamengo Jersey Pays Homage to Libertadores Title of 1981
Rio de Janeiro, May 10th, 2016 – Flamengo will kick start the Brazilian championship wearing a victory symbol. The traditional club from Rio will present its new home kit for the season. Inspired on the Copa Libertadores da América title from 1981 it pays homage to Flamengo’s legion of fans, the largest in Brazil.
The wide red and black stripes, V neck and pinstripe finish on the sleeves are inspired on the kit used by players such as Zico, the Brazilian legend who scored two goals on the final match that gave Flamengo the championship – and the World Cup right after.
“The jersey is a complement to one of the club’s finest moments and the supporters who were always there on the Maracanã Stadium - they still hold the record for higher audience in the Championship”, says André Xavier, Product Manager in adidas Brazil He also remembers the amazing marks of the 80's, when Flamengo had a public average of 86.063 fans, a record that remains unmatched.

The campaign #omantoehmeu (the cloak is mine) started on May 7th. The fans that uses the hashtag for a chance of signing the shirt that will be used on the first match of the Brazilian Championship.
The garment has ClimaCool® technology that identifies where the body produces more heat and uses specific fabrics to add breathability to those areas. The material allows the athlete to go further for longer while keeping the ideal body temperature. The cloak has the 3-Stripes on the side - and no longer on the shoulder, like before.
Flamengo's players will be wearing the new kit during the Brazilian Championship on May 14th against Sport Recife on the Raulino de Oliveira Stadium.
